Analisis Kesalahan Tanda Baca Bahasa Indonesia dalam Teks Komunikasi Iklan Persuasif pada Peserta Didik Kelas VIII SMPK Santo Mikael Surabaya

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types and forms of punctuation errors, especially the use of capital letters, prepositions, and Indonesian particles in persuasive advertising texts in grade VIII students at SMPK Santo Mikael Surabaya. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The source of research data is in the form of persuasive advertising texts of students collected through writing assignments given by Indonesian subject teachers. Data collection techniques are carried out through documentation, while data analysis techniques include the stages of identification, classification, and interpretation of language errors based on the applicable Indonesian spelling rules. The results of the study show that misuse of punctuation marks is the most dominant type of error, especially in the use of capital letters. In addition, preposition errors are found in the use of words in, to, and from that do not correspond to their function and writing. Misuse of particles, especially the particles -lah, -kah, and pun, also often occur due to students' lack of understanding of language rules. Factors that cause errors include low mastery of spelling rules, the influence of oral language habits, and lack of systematic writing practice. This research is expected to contribute to Indonesian teachers in designing more effective learning strategies to improve students' writing skills in schools, as well as minimize language errors in students' written communication.
