Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of critical thinking skills among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 071166 Ononamolo Alasa in the subject of Pancasila Education. This was evident from the lack of initiative in asking questions and the learning mastery level, which was only 56.25% at the initial stage of the study. The purpose of this research was to improve students’ critical thinking skills through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model. The study employed Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles, where each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the research were fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 071166 Ononamolo Alasa. Data collection techniques included observation, critical thinking tests, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods by comparing the results of each cycle. The results of the study showed that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model significantly improved students’ critical thinking skills. This was indicated by an increase in the percentage of learning mastery from 56.25% in the first cycle to 87.5% in the second cycle. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning model is effective as an innovative teaching strategy to improve the quality of learning in elementary schools.
