Abstract

 Low reading interest is a serious challenge in learning, especially based on the results of the 2022 PISA which placed Indonesia's literacy score down to 359 points. This study aims to develop, test the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of Macromedia Flash (MeF) media to increase reading interest in fifth-grade elementary school students. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model. This study involved 12 fifth-grade elementary school students consisting of 7 male students and 5 female students, and was conducted at the UPTD SDN 076059 Lololawa located in Lololawa Village, Gunungsitoli Alo'oa District, North Sumatra Province. The results of the study showed the feasibility of the media: material experts 93% (very valid), language experts 84% ​​(very valid), design experts 88% (very valid). The practicality level reached 97%, effectiveness 92%, and there was a significant increase in reading interest from a pretest score of 44.25 to 84.83 in the posttest (an increase of 91.71%) with a classical completeness of 92%. This further confirms that the MeF media is not only practical in its use, but also very effective in changing students' reading interest from a passive attitude to a more active one, making this media a highly recommended teaching tool for elementary school contexts.
