Abstract

This study aims to examine the urgency of reconstructing the Islamic education curriculum to face the challenges of the modern era, marked by the rapid development of science and technology. The Islamic education curriculum serves not only as a medium for transferring religious knowledge but also as a means of character formation and mastering life skills. The method used was qualitative research with a library research approach. Data were collected from various accredited national scientific journals, academic books, and relevant educational policy documents. The study results indicate that the dichotomy between religious knowledge and general knowledge remains a major problem in the Islamic education curriculum in Indonesia. Curriculum reconstruction efforts through integrated scientific design have proven effective in addressing this fragmentation. The implementation of the Independent Curriculum in the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) opens up opportunities for the development of a more adaptive, inclusive, and contextual curriculum. This study recommends the development of an adaptive curriculum model based on relevant, holistic, and transformative Islamic values.
