Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the needs of tenth-grade students at SMA ITP Surabaya for classical guidance services as a basis for developing an effective guidance and counseling program. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with a sample of 123 tenth-grade students selected using a non-probability sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using the Student Needs Scale (SKPD) instrument consisting of 22 statements covering four areas of guidance, namely personal, learning, social, and career. The instrument has met the validity test with a significance value of 0.00–0.05 and a reliability test with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.850 in the good category. Data analysis using percentage techniques to map the level of student needs in each area in detail. The results show that student needs are in the very high category in all areas of guidance. In the personal area, the average need reaches 97% with an emphasis on discipline and understanding social norms. The learning area also shows a figure of 97%, with the main needs being increased motivation, interest in learning, and effective learning strategies. In the social field, the average need was 97%, indicated by a high need for communication and collaboration skills. Meanwhile, the career field ranked highest with an average of 99%, particularly in aspects of self-understanding, exploring further study options, and future planning. These findings emphasize the need for guidance and counseling programs to be designed in a planned, systematic manner, and based on data on students' actual needs in order to provide targeted services to optimally support students' personal, academic, social, and career development.
