Abstract

Advances in digital technology require Islamic Religious Education (PAI) to adapt by utilizing more innovative media. However, the PAI learning process in schools still faces various challenges, such as low student engagement, difficulty understanding abstract material, and suboptimal learning outcomes due to a lack of variety in instructional media. This study aims to describe the use of audiovisual media in PAI instruction as an effort to address these issues through a deep learning approach. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews with PAI teachers, the administrative coordinator, and the school principal, as well as document analysis at SMAN 1 Kota Kediri. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions by applying source triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the use of audiovisual media can enhance students’ conceptual understanding through the presentation of material in a more concrete, engaging, and systematic manner, such as posters, presentations, and mind mapping. The integration of audiovisual media with the deep learning approach also encourages students’ active participation, strengthens their engagement in the learning process, and improves the quality of learning outcomes. Thus, the use of audiovisual media combined with the deep learning approach is an effective alternative for addressing challenges in Islamic Education (PAI) while improving students’ learning outcomes.
